President's Message From Leah Wang, CPCC, ACC
“When you listen generously to people they can hear the truth in themselves, often for the first time.” - Rachel Naomi Remen
A clear, fluted vase filled with orange and yellow freesia sits on my kitchen table, cheering me with the vibrancy of outdoors, and acting as my touchstone to slow down, get centered, and enter into that space of deep, generous listening. As I take in the heady fragrance of the flowers, I’ve been inviting the question What wants to happen? that Alan Seale offered at our January event.
This question was at the heart of a recent conversation the ICFLA Board of Directors had while planning for 2012. In listening deeply to each other, and to your feedback from our events and teleclasses, a few key themes emerged:
Connection - to be in deep, honest conversation with each other; to have a space in which the challenging truth of our experience can be told; to be in relationship with each other in new and meaningful ways
Community - to collaborate with each other; to share resources; to feel part of a larger, vibrant group of committed change agents
Learning - to dive deep into new experiences; to explore the cutting edge of our work in the world; to embrace and shape the future
There are ample opportunities for connection, community and learning at ICFLA this month! Join us for an amazing in-person event with Chellie Campbell on February 15th, or participate in the value-added teleclasses we’re offering. Stay tuned as we share findings from the recent ICF Global Coaching Study during International Coaching Week, and mark your calendar for the 2nd Annual L.A. Coaching Expo on Saturday, April 28th.
As always, I urge you to step fully into the conversation and take a few minutes to share your thoughts and suggestions about What wants to happen? at office@icfla.org.
Happy Listening!
