Yu-Lin KongYU-LIN KONG - President
Yu-Lin Kong, President of ULINK Consulting, coaches high potential executives to get promoted and make successful transitions to thrive as emerging leaders of our future. Drawing upon more than 10 years of coaching experience, she brings a unique background in leadership development, executive presence, emotional intelligence, communication skills, and energy management in order to maximize an individual’s potential as a leader. Her expertise as a leadership coach has brought her client’s from some of the world’s largest high-tech companies, investment funds, and nonprofits. She has coached leaders on topics such as career transitions, presentation skills, executive presence, and communication skills.

After obtaining her black belt in Hapkido at the age of 16, Yu-Lin went on to study with a 34th-generation Shaolin Temple warrior monk in New York City, practicing the arts of Shaolin Kung Fu, T’ai Chi, and Qigong. At the young age of 26, Yu-Lin earned her promotion to Executive Director at the USA Shaolin Temple in NYC. As a martial arts master, she combines the essence of this training in discipline, persistence, and refinement in her unique approach to coaching with leaders at every level of their development.

Yu-Lin is also an active member of the local and national community. She currently serves as a Strategic Partner committee member on the board of the Bloom Again Foundation, which offers rapid financial services to economically vulnerable, impoverished working women suffering through a medical crisis. In addition to serving her local community, Yu-Lin is also an alumni ambassador for her alma mater, the Milano School of International Affairs at the New School in New York.

Bringing friends together over a locally sourced organic home cooked meal, trying new restaurants, and exploring art are some of Yu-Lin’s favorite pastimes.



Rachel Karu, MS, ACCRACHEL KARU, MS, PCC, Author Speaker - President Elect
Rachel Karu’s quest for purpose and passion led her to create Stepping into More – A personal and professional development company dedicated to supporting clients with their quest to unleash their purpose and passion in order to live a fulfilling and empowering life! An experienced coach, speaker, trainer, and singer with over 19 years’ experience, she energizes her clients and creates an affirming environment for personal and professional transformation. Prior to launching Stepping into More, Rachel served as Human Resources Manager at EMI Music Distribution and the Manager of Organization Development and Training at Easton Sports, Inc.

Rachel earned a Master’s of Science in Counseling for Business, Industry and Government and a Bachelor of Science in Business with a specialization in Human Resources. She achieved her Coaching Credential through the International Coaching Federation and is a Certified Strengths Coach with the Marcus Buckingham Company. Rachel is certified/qualified in a variety of assessment tools including the Myers Briggs Type Indicator and Standout (strengths based assessment).

Rachel’s personal journey as a Recovering Perfectionist inspired her to create Stepping into More. Rachel’s perfectionism paralyzed her from pursuing her passion for singing for over 20 years until a car accident changed everything.

This series of events led Rachel back into performing, publishing her autobiographical self-help book - Stepping Into More – Lessons from a Recovering Perfectionist (http://tinyurl.com/steppingintomore), and producing her CD of songs - Stepping Into More (http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/rachelkaru).

Rachel serves as the chairperson for the Association for Talent Development’s Westside special interest group for over eight years.

Courtney Webster, CPCC, PCCCOURTNEY WEBSTER, PCC, CPCC - Past President
As the founder of Your Recovered Life, Courtney is passionate about working with clients in recovery from addiction to produce extraordinary results in their lives, careers, and businesses in a way that connects to the heart and soul.

“I’m sober and I’ve got my life back together but NOW WHAT?” - this is where second stage recovery and Your Recovered Life kicks in, and the arena where Courtney excels. Her clients are hungry and driven to make a second chance count. Drawing on over a decade in the world of recovery, with an acute and compassionate understanding of the desire to find one’s calling, a killer sense of humor and the knowledge that what she is doing is making difference, Courtney is coaching clients to where what was once an impossible dream is now a reality. For individuals in earlier recovery she facilitates coaching groups for prominent treatment centers in the Los Angeles area.

Courtney received her Certified Professional Co-Active Coach training and certification from the Coaches Training Institute, is a Professional Credentialed Coach through the International Coach Federation and is a Certified Strengths Coach through the Marcus Buckingham Company. Heather Backstrom, Ed.D., CPCCHEATHER BACKSTROM, Ed.D., C.P.C.C - Secretary
Dr. Backstrom has more than 20 years of experience in all aspects of organization and leadership development including executive coaching, workshop design and delivery, team interventions and meeting facilitation. The breadth of her experience spans organizations in the for-profit, not-for-profit and public sector arenas.

Her rich expertise includes Toyota, City of Hope National Medical Center, Beach Cities Health District, Moog and JPL. With a passion for learning and continuing education, Dr. Backstrom is also an adjunct faculty member with the University of Redlands and Azusa Pacific University where she delights in teaching undergraduate, MA and MBA students.

Her love for leadership development work started early in her career, first as a trainer then as an instructional designer, OD consultant, executive coach and meeting facilitator. With keen insight on the interpersonal challenges that individuals and teams face Dr. Backstrom is adept at addressing leadership and organizational effectiveness issues.

She takes a customized, in-depth approach with leaders and teams to enhance their capacity to work more effectively with others and perform at higher levels. By carefully listening to the needs of the client Dr. Backstrom designs tailored programs that are results oriented. She uses a blended approach that may include data collection and feedback, assessment tools (i.e., MBTI, TKI, DiSC), individual coaching and workshops.

Her work with individuals and teams has shown her that effectiveness begins with understanding oneself and one’s impact upon others. With this insight then true authentic change occurs that results in higher levels of performance and improved interpersonal relationships.

An enthusiastic learner herself she received a doctorate degree in organizational leadership from Pepperdine University. She is a volunteer with the Tournament of Roses Association, Executive Service Corp. and is on the Board of Directors with the American Red Cross San Gabriel Valley-Pomona Chapter. She is a member of Provisors and Leadership Pasadena.



Brooke Loesby, Esq.BROOKE LOESBY, ESQ - Director of Membership
Growth occurs outside our comfort zone. Brooke serves as a trusted ally, a resource and a sounding board for your transition. She is skilled in helping clients navigate roadblocks and keeping them focused on their path. Brooke has a genuine passion and interest in their success. Guided by clients’ inner voices, Brooke lends her creativity, inquisitiveness, and enthusiasm to help them to manifest their calling.

Brooke has assisted hundreds of clients in making important career and life transitions. Brooke’s approach is personalized and proactive; she works to help clarify their aspirations and assist them in achieving their goals. Brooke’s clients range from humanitarian activists to media and fashion professionals, to start up entrepreneurs and senior attorneys from Am Law 100 firms.

Before coaching, Brooke experienced several career transitions of her own: for three years, she worked in legislation on Capitol Hill, for Senator Larry E. Craig; as an attorney, Brooke practiced Labor and Employment law at Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer and Feld; she then served as Assistant Director of Career Services at Loyola Law School, for six years. Michelle Dombrowski Sullivan, MS, BPM, PMPMICHELLE SULLIVAN, MS - GLOBAL BUSINESS & LEADERSHIP - Co-Director of Communications
A former Executive turned Executive Coach, Leadership Development Consultant, and Educator, Michelle is a Managing Partner with Dragonfly Consultants, working primarily with large enterprises in developing their company cultures and leaders to be successful in today’s ever changing, always connected, global environment. She is also Co-founder of Sullivan Global Consulting, focused on developing global market strategies and coaching cross-cultural teams and expatriates. Globetrotting for her work is the norm.

Michelle is a Professor and Coach in the MBA program at UCLA and guest lectures in the School of Business Administration at the University of San Diego. After 20 years of working in start-up to global Fortune 100 enterprises, living in France, Ireland, Argentina, and Mexico, she gained a passion and curiosity for other cultures and wanted to help companies build their cultures around our modern-day, diverse workplace, including the changing role of women. After being an executive in science and technology, she’s lived those challenges.

Michelle holds a BS from the University of Michigan and MS in Global Business & Leadership from the University of San Diego. She has certifications in Business Process Management, Project Management Professional (PMP), Everything DiSC, 5 Behaviors of a Cohesive Team, OCI (Organizational Culture Index), Executive Coaching, and has a partnership with Dr. Ralph Kilmann, co-creator of TKI. Aside from ICFLA, she is a Board Member with DreamState Holdings, a fast growing holding company with entities in motion picture/film, apparel/fashion, and leadership development.

JENNY JORDAN, CPC, ELI-MP - Co-Director of Communications
As a native Los Angeleno, Jenny is very familiar with the "Hollywood" story of laying it all on the line for a dream, and has always been curious about what motivates people to move to L.A.

After 25 years of an editing career that started out by following in her father's footsteps, she realizes now that she walks to a different beat, and it's her turn to live the dream. Jenny's passion for helping people find their own path, especially after they've suffered a loss, is what brought her to iPEC to study coaching.

Jenny holds a BA in Liberal Studies from Antioch University, Los Angeles with a focus on Psychology and Buddhism. Susan Smalley, MBASUSAN SMALLEY - Co-Director of Speakers
Susan Smalley is a leadership coach and master facilitator with over 20 years of experience in supporting the growth and development of leaders, teams and individuals. She is the founder of the Smalley Consulting Group, specializing in Leadership Development, Team Building & Communication, and Culture Change.

She brings a wealth of real world experience to her work spending 15 years at the Walt Disney Company working across the studio to improve team effectiveness and build leadership skills. While there she implemented the development strategy for the top executive talent including building the Studio’s coaching practice and implementing an Executive Mentor program.

Susan’s approach to work has been described as both pragmatic and lighthearted. She believes the best way for employees to learn and grow is through enjoying the process. With this in mind, she focuses on building on the strengths of individuals and teams & creating a positive and open learning environment.



Sarah KhambattaSARAH KHAMBATTA - Co-Director of Speakers
Sarah is the founder of Dreams Transform Reality; a company committed to clients getting massive results in their businesses and careers by expanding their confidence, capacity and strategies.

Prior to Coaching, Sarah was the General Manager of two large live theatres and an outdoor venue in Los Angeles for 10 years. The facility was located on Federal Government property which honed her skills essential to communicate within government leadership, healthcare non-profits and highly esteemed Hollywood elite while collaborating with outside public, private and political opinion in a sensitive environment.

Sarah has diverse clients ranging from Coaches and Consultants to CEOs and Presidents, to marketing strategists and designers, military and recent College graduates, to housewives re-entering the work force. She coaches her clients to create powerful relationships, communicate in challenging opportunities with compassion and confidence, becoming true leaders in their own lives. Her clients have results such as tripling their income, claiming new careers, raises or bonus’ they previously let pass them by, increasing their company’s net worth by inventing new companywide procedures and booming in their own dream business.

Barry Bettman, PCC, ATL

BARRY BETTMAN, PCC, ATL - Co-Director of Virtual Education
Barry Bettman, PCC, ATL, is an ICF credentialed Professional Certified Coach, an Approved Tribal Leader culture change agent and an Executive Producer for many international teleclass programs. As an ex-technologist turned human, Barry brings a blend of facilitation and production talents to clients desiring world-class teleclass programs. Barry’s values are inspiration, passion and thoughtful sincerity as he calls forth a world of authenticity and richness for all people. And that is who he is!

Barry has been on the ICFLA board since 2014 as Virtual Programs Director as well as the technology platform expert for Maestro conference. In his spare time, Barry is an avid amateur radio operator communicating with people all around the world over the ham radio airwaves.



Elsbeth Tate, PCC, CPCCELSBETH TATE, CPCC, PCC - Co-Director of Virtual Education
Elsbeth is the Chief Inspiration Officer of Rebel with a Cause Business & Life Coaching. She is certified by The Coaches Training Institute and holds the designation of PCC through the ICF. She is also trained in NLP, Organizational and Relationship Systems and Neuroscience, Transformation & Consciousness Coaching, Bigger Game Leadership Training and a graduate of CTI Co-Active Leadership Program. She has won the 2013 prestigious Women of Influence Award through the National Association of Professional and Executive Women and was on the Faculty of CTI leading the Business Development Course.

A previous Accountant and coaching since 1999, Elsbeth firmly believes that true change comes via an inspired vision and collaboration! Elsbeth loves to raise the bar for coaches in her mentoring and supervisory roles.



Matt_smMATT DICKINSON - Director of Events
With a passion for strategy and communications, Matt’s been a catalyst for an eclectic roster of start-ups shifting from vision to action for over a decade.

As Public Relations Director for the TheFix.com, he handled all communications for the site The New York Times called a “game changer” for pulling recovery out of the closet and into the mainstream. The site quickly became the world's premier online resource for addiction and recovery. While opening new territories for the expansion of innovative, sustainable design firm Greensulate, the company was selected as a Top 5 Start-Up at Opportunity Green, and earned a coveted spot on Inc. magazine's "Entrepreneurs We Love" List. Current projects included the launch of Moxi, a new community-focused app that turns individual procrastination into social productivity by breaking down goals into weekly activities where friends join or support in their accomplishment.

Recent coaching clients have ranged from a C-suite executive at one of the nation’s largest healthcare companies to a celebrated, world-touring musician beginning his own production company. Grateful for how much coaching and others have transformed his work and life since he began studying with The Coaches Training Institute in 2015, he’s eagerly pursuing his certification with CTI in 2017.
