Whether you're an established executive coach looking for community or someone curious about executive coaching — or someone in between! — this is your SIG.

In September, we discuss how to identify clients who are -- and are not! -- ready to be coached, and what actions to take when you deem a client uncoachable.

Your host, Tom Henschel, has been coaching executives at companies like Disney, Netflix, Cisco and AECOM for more than twenty-five years. In addition to leading his own company, he's a founding coach at Corporate Coaching International and is a senior coach with Arden Consulting, Aria Consulting, and Executive Coaching Connections.

Research shows that reading a book with a group improves learning and application with clients. It also creates the opportunity to connect as a community, explore insights and share best practices for application.

With these goals in mind, ICFLA is excited to launch our first Book Club SIG

We invite you to join this participatory forum to read and learn and apply the expertise from our profession’s leading thought leaders and practitioners.

How it Works: Over 50 members voted in our recent poll to select the two books! Now we will provide the forum. Your facilitators, Adam Venker and Iris Gelt Warner, will lead lively, engaging and informative discussions with the group.

For the first session, come prepared to talk about the first selected book:THE MINDFUL COACH: SEVEN ROLES FOR FACILITATING LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT, by Doug Silsbee

What did you learn? What new insights did it inspire for you? How might you apply it to your growth as a coach and to your impact with your clients?

At the end of Session #1, we will vote on whether to (1) Continue the discussion in Session #2 with examples and case studies of how you applied the learnings, or (2) Read and discuss the second book:

TIME TO THINK, by Nancy Kline

Either way, this is YOUR book club and we want it to reflect YOUR interests, goals, and direction.

The purpose of the book club is to affirm our commitment to growth and development and encourage us to keep asking important questions about our world, our profession and the people we engage with. Join us to achieve your professional goals by working and reading together!

In this two-part series you will:

  • Enjoy recent, popular, and applicable coaching literature
  • Share thoughts, opinions, and ideas with fellow coaches
  • Discover new insights about coaching models and approaches
  • Take away practical coaching tools that you can apply to your coaching clients immediately
  • Nourish your life-long-learning self
  • Connect with potential partners, mentors, colleagues, friends
  • Inspire your own pursuit of writing and/or program development

Iris Gelt Warner has more than 15 years as an accomplished executive and career coach who works with teams and individuals on professional development, career transition and personal growth. She draws from a 30+ year career as a senior marketing and communications executive in a variety of complex organizations, from global corporations to government and non-profits. As Coaches, have you noticed how some of the important conversations we (or our clients) engage in create a sense of fear, doubt or trepidation, or leave us with a mixture of emotions like distrust, hurt and or anger? What if you could learn how to co-create conversations that foster deeper trust, connection, caring and candor in your business and personal relationships? Conversations and patterns serve to protect us from others or enable us to partner with others.

The Neuroscience of Conversational Intelligence: Why Every Word Matters is an introductory session that invites you to harness the latest developments in the chemistry of language in order to have productive, healthy conversations, even in the most challenging situations! This interactive workshop provides practical, cutting-edge tools to help you frame and sustain powerful conversations by talking about what really matters.

Objectives for the session:

Through a combination of group exercise, paired activity, and group discussion, you will quickly learn how to use one of the most important coaching skills--how to make every word matter and walk away with:

  1. An introduction to Conversational Intelligence (C-IQ).
  2. A simple methodology to elevate the quality of trust-building and deeper         conversations to help you establish trust and intimacy with your clients.
  3. A personal experience to feel the power of a C-IQ shift as we actively listen to connect with others. We will transcribe new mind-opening and closing patterns in our brains.
  4. An understanding of how to paint a picture of mutual success with your clients.
  5. A practical application and a challenge that activates healthy chemicals− thereby     improving our coaching presence and ability to create awareness with our clients.
