Inconsistent or insufficient sleep can be costly for business, impacting decision- making, judgment, interpersonal relations, absenteeism, safety, productivity and health, including immune functioning, susceptibility to illness and psychological well-being.
Emotional and social competence facilitate effective leadership, and quality/quantity of sleep plays an important role in the ability to regulate emotions (Gujar et al., 2011). This session will summarize a recent study exploring the relationship between sleep, emotional intelligence and interpersonal effectiveness. Implications for coaches to help individuals and organizations reduce both perceived and actual costs associated with poor sleep will be discussed.
